BOX SCORE
FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – The Nova Southeastern softball team (16-11, 1-0 SSC) hosted Florida Tech (10-10, 0-1 SSC) Friday night at the AD Griffin Sports Complex and came away with a shutout, two-hit victory over the Panthers by a score of 2-0.
Sara DeMuth (Sr., Plant City, Fla.) earned her 11th win in the circle for the Sharks, while
Gina Bondarenko (So., Pembroke Pines, Fla.) and
Gina Bondarenko (Fr., Umatilla, Fla.) were each credited with an RBI.
The Sharks notched the first run of the game in the opening inning. With two outs, Bondarenko hit a ground ball to the FIT shortstop that was bobbled, allowing
Lorena Spaulding (Fr., Pembroke Pines, Fla.) to score from third.
NSU added another tally in the bottom of the second inning, again with two outs.
Chelsea Emery (Jr., Eustis, Fla.) led off with an infield single and was then pinch run for by
Holly Roberson (So., Dunnellon, Fla.). With Roberson on third after a stolen base and an advancement on a ground out, Spicola slammed a double to bring her home.
The Panthers best chance to get on the board came in the fifth inning when they loaded the bases, but DeMuth was able to get Kara Dickinson to ground out to end the threat and keep the shutout intact.
Laura Saladrigas (Jr., Hollywood, Fla.) went 2-for-3 at the plate as the only Shark to record more than one hit. NSU registered eight hits as a team, while FIT managed only two, with five batters struck out.
NSU will be back on the field Saturday for two more against FIT. First pitch is set for 1 p.m. at the AD Griffin Sports Complex.
